The Real Estate section of last week’s Sunday Times, featured Forest Hills Gardens, where, readers of this blog know, I grew up. I was a lucky duck.
It was described as a “Tudor time-capsule”, and a “tucked-away hamlet in central Queens”. Correct and correct. The paper has a nice slide-show here. This is the park where I used to sled as a kid, and my nephew still does.
As I wrote recently, the neighborhood, (currently celebrating its centenary), somehow eluded a list of “best” in New York - and this list was 50 neighborhoods long. I point this out not because it affects reality, but rather, that in this case, Nate Silver’s math was, seriously flawed.
The Times quotes a woman,
“If you took the cars off the street, you couldn’t tell what year it was. It could be 1926; it could be 2010,” she said. “And I appreciate that. ”
Amen, and ‘nuff said.
