Readers of this blog know that I love the area around the Gowanus Canal, and am interested in its clean-up. Well, since the canal’s Superfund designation, the Feds have been taking samples of the muck.
How bad is it? The regional Superfund director calls it,
“as heavily contaminated a waterway as we’ve ever seen.”
The stuff is eating through the heavy-duty plastic that they use to drill core samples. Yikes.

Bonus to anyone who identifies the screen-shot at the top. Hint: an actress in the film has a sister who acted in a similar ‘milieu’.
