If New York was any kind of normal (i.e., non-Louisianan) state, Governor Paterson would already be looking at impeachment, and quite possibly arrest. Let’s see if he lasts the month.
The New York State Police is not supposed to be some kind of Praetorian Guard. State Police chief Harry Corbitt needs to go, too.
As for Assemblyman Wright’s contention that “David Paterson has proven that he can govern his state…”. Doesn’t proving something require proof?
Let me pose this hypothetical - if Paterson had the State Police contact a black domestic-violence complainant in order to just ‘give her options’ about what to do about the white aide who had ripped her clothes off her back and then wouldn’t let her call 911, would Wright, Sharpton, and Meeks still be saying the governor should serve out his term?
With the man who challenged Carl McCall in the race to replace Pataki back in 1992, as the current attorney general and governor-presumptive, this has all the makings of a classic ugly New York racial ‘thing’, and at least 3 separate episodes of Law & Order.
